# A stale chain count was corrected, and news posts came under the claims guard on 19 August 2026

**On 19 August 2026 we corrected a post that said coverage had reached 25 chains when the index already held 31, and we extended the claims guard to read news posts. No rating changed. Monero, Mochimo and QRL keep the ratings the dataset shows below. A wrong sentence in a post is now a failed build.**

*Published 13 September 2026. The rating below is current as of 2 October 2026. This is a security-readiness assessment, not investment advice.*

A post published on 19 August 2026 carried a count that had been true six days earlier, and nothing was checking it.

## What moved on 19 August

The post announcing [Monero and Mochimo](https://hardyindex.com/news/monero-and-mochimo-join-the-index) said in its headline and its answer that the two chains took coverage to 25 chains. That was true on 13 August. The post went live on the 19th, by which point the index held 31. It had been drafted from a six-day-old changelog entry, written in the present tense, and it merged.

Two things had to be missing at once for that to reach you, and both were.

- The claims guard read chain profiles and nothing else. No sentence in any published post had ever been checked against the dataset.
- The claim itself was index-scoped and quantitative, but not comparative. It ranked nothing and named no other chain, so the pattern built to catch "the only chain in this index" slid straight off it.

Both are closed. The scanner now reads the news collection, and a claim in a post is registered exactly as a claim in a profile is. Counts are matched separately and held to a stricter rule than comparisons: either write the live figure as a token that reads the dataset at build time, or register the number as historical with the date it was true and say that date in the sentence. A historical count whose sentence does not carry its year fails the build, because the date is the only thing stopping a reader taking it as current.

## What turning the guard on posts found

Reading the news collection immediately surfaced something worse than a stale number. The [QRL post](https://hardyindex.com/news/qrl-native-original), live since 12 August, opened by saying every other chain in this index is having a conversation about migration. Mochimo and Abelian launched post-quantum too and never needed one. It is the same error corrected on the profiles the day before, of the same shape, on the same chain, surviving in a post because posts were not being read.

That sentence now names all three chains that launched post-quantum, and it is checked against the tier data rather than trusted, so the claim re-verifies itself whenever a chain enters or leaves the top tier. Three older comparative sentences were found at the same time and registered with predicates: Algorand's placement, IOTA's statement about elliptic-curve reliance, and Monero's about the gap it filled. Those sit alongside the [four comparative claims corrected across four chains](https://hardyindex.com/news/four-comparative-claims-corrected-across-four-chains).

> **How it was tested.** All four rules were tested by breaking them. The sentence exactly as it published, a historical count with its date removed, a new unregistered comparison in a post, and a falsified predicate each produce a red build.

## What this does not mean

No rating moved. The ratings in the Monero and Mochimo post were never wrong: those are read from the index on every build, which is why they stayed current while the prose around them aged. Only the narrative was stale.

It also does not mean anything changed on any of these chains. Monero still signs with Ed25519, and its CLSAG ring signatures, stealth addresses and Bulletproofs all sit over that same curve. Lattice-based candidates have been analysed in Monero's own research, but nothing post-quantum is deployed. Mochimo has used hash-based WOTS+ since genesis. QRL has used XMSS for every account since launch, with ML-DSA-87 planned in Project Zond. None of that moved in August.

And a guard that reads posts is not a guarantee that every sentence is right. It catches claims of a known shape: counts, comparisons, registered predicates. A wrong claim of a shape nobody has described yet still gets through. That is what happened here.

## If you hold one of these

Nothing in your wallet changed. What changed is how much weight you can put on a number in a post. Before 19 August, a figure in our prose was written by hand and checked by nobody. Now a live count reads the dataset, and a historical one has to carry the date it was true.

The practical habit: if a sentence in this feed gives you a number without a date, treat it as current, because the build will not let it be anything else. If it gives you a date, that is the number as it stood then. And for what each of these chains is rated today, read the block rather than the prose.

**Where this stands today.**

- [Monero](https://hardyindex.com/chains/monero): Tier 4: Debating, Hardy Score 21.0 of 100.
- [Mochimo](https://hardyindex.com/chains/mochimo): Tier 1: Native, Hardy Score 90.0 of 100.
- [Quantum Resistant Ledger](https://hardyindex.com/chains/qrl): Tier 1: Native, Hardy Score 92.0 of 100.
