# Which is the most quantum-resistant blockchain?

## Which blockchains rate highest for quantum resistance?

Quantum Resistant Ledger rates highest, at 92.0 out of 100, with Abelian second at 84.5. Both sit in Tier 1: Native, the top rung of the readiness spine. That means post-quantum signatures protect every account on mainnet today, rather than being offered as an option.

## How is quantum readiness judged?

Quantum readiness is scored on six weighted dimensions, published in full before any chain was rated. The heaviest weight sits on the signature scheme protecting funds on mainnet today, because that is the thing a quantum computer would actually have to beat.

- **Signature scheme, 30%.** What is protecting funds on mainnet right now, quantum-vulnerable or post-quantum.
- **Deployment stage, 25%.** How far along the five-rung spine the chain has actually got, from Native to Exposed.
- **NIST alignment, 15%.** Whether the chosen scheme is a finalised NIST standard, on the standardisation track, or bespoke.
- **Migration path, 15%.** Whether existing holders have a credible, low-loss route to quantum-safe keys.
- **Exposure, 10%.** How much supply already sits at addresses with visible public keys.
- **Verification, 5%.** Whether the claims are audited and open source, or resting on marketing.

The deployment dimension is derived from the tier rather than scored separately, so a chain's tier and its score can never contradict each other. - **Tier 1: Native** (2 of 23 chains): Post-quantum secure at mainnet today, with quantum-resistant signatures built in from genesis.
- **Tier 2: Shipping** (3 of 23 chains): Post-quantum signature features are live on mainnet and a migration for existing holders is underway.
- **Tier 3: Committed** (9 of 23 chains): A funded roadmap with public dates and active research exists, but no post-quantum signature is live on mainnet.
- **Tier 4: Debating** (4 of 23 chains): The threat is acknowledged and proposals exist, but there is no consensus and no published timeline.
- **Tier 5: Exposed** (5 of 23 chains): The signatures securing funds on mainnet today are quantum-vulnerable, and no public post-quantum plan, proposal or research programme could be found.

## Why is the leader not one of the largest chains?

Because the Hardy Score measures quantum readiness and nothing else. It does not measure liquidity, market capitalisation, adoption, developer activity or general security. A chain that built post-quantum signatures from genesis will out-score a much larger chain that has not started.

The large chains are not idle. Ethereum has a funded post-quantum programme targeting roughly 2029, Algorand has shipped Falcon-signed transactions on mainnet, and Nervos CKB has an audited SPHINCS+ lock script deployed. They score where they score because none of that yet protects the average account by default.

A high Hardy Score is a statement about cryptography, not a recommendation, and a low one is not a prediction of failure. That distinction is the reason this index can be cited.

## What about chains that claim to be quantum-proof?

A marketing claim does not earn a rung on the Hardy Index. A chain is published only once its deployed signature scheme can be confirmed against a primary source. Where it cannot, the row is held back rather than guessed at in either direction.

Corrections work the same way in the other direction. IOTA is still widely described as quantum-resistant on the strength of a signature scheme it replaced in 2021. ### Is Bitcoin quantum-resistant?

No. Bitcoin signs with ECDSA and Schnorr on the secp256k1 curve, both of which Shor's algorithm breaks on a large enough quantum computer. It scores 17.0 out of 100 on the Hardy Index, in Tier 4: Debating. Two post-quantum proposals are documented, and neither is activated and neither introduces a post-quantum signature.

### Is Ethereum quantum-resistant?

Not today. Ethereum accounts use ECDSA and validators use BLS, both quantum-vulnerable. It scores 40.0 out of 100 in Tier 3: Committed. That reflects a funded Ethereum Foundation programme with public research, hash-based validator signatures running in devnets, and a target of roughly 2029 for core post-quantum infrastructure.

### How many blockchains are actually quantum-safe?

Very few. Of the 23 major chains rated by the Hardy Index as of 12 August 2026, 2 are Tier 1: Native, meaning post-quantum signatures protect every account on mainnet. A further 3 are Tier 2: Shipping, with post-quantum signatures live but not the default.
